Auto GP will hold the first Official Test of its 2012 season in Monza, on the 2nd of March.
After that some of the Series teams made the most of the winter time to organize some private sessions, going from the warm temperatures of Valencia and Estoril to the cold ones of Misano, the Italian track will host the first collective session of the year.
The “Autodromo Nazionale” will witness a very important moment for the Series, the first official outing of the Auto GP cars fitted with Kumho tyres, one of the major news for the coming season. On the very fast straights of the Italian track the teams will indeed have both tyre compounds at their disposal, the soft and the hard one, the same ones that they will be using one week later in the season opener.
So the test will be a key moment for all the technical staffs, who will do their best to maximize the amount of experience and data gathered in order to be in top shape when the first race of the 2012 season will start. In the meantime the Auto GP staff is already at work to organize a further day of testing that will be held during the season, again on one of the tracks that are part of the 2012 calendar.
Enzo Coloni: “Considering the great deal of news that we introduced for 2012, with the new Kumho tyres above all, we thought that the best thing to do was to give the teams the opportunity to test on the same tracks where they will race throughout the season. That’s why we opted for Monza, being the circuit where we will hold our season opener it was the ideal choice for the first test, besides being among the drivers’ favourites.
Following the same criteria we are already preparing another test day later in the season, again on one of the tracks that are part of our calendar”.
